Dear All,

Thanks to the support from Directors Zhigang Li and Qianjun Miao of HeiLongJiang Bureau of Surveying and Mapping (HLJBSM), and Provost Peter Steans and Dean Menas Kafatos of George Mason University, the "Advanced Certificate of GeoInformation Science" was successfully accomplished.

The activity is organized based on MOUs among HLJBSM, GMU, and CPGIS. 21 GeoInformation Science professionals from HeiLong Jiang, Guangxi,
Shanghai, Jiangsu,Beijing provinces/cities participated in an approximately 2-month summer training (July 2-Aug.26) at George Mason Univeristy (GMU) for customized "Advanced Certificate of GeoInformation Science".

During the 8 weeks, professors/scientists from GMU, NASA JPL, NASA GES DACC, NASA GIO, USGS/FGDC, EPA GEOSS, OGC, and Tetra Tech Inc. introduced various cutting-edge topics on Earth Observations systems (EOS), Spatial Statistics, EOS Data Systems, GeoScience Interoperability, Web Services, Grid Computing, National Spatial Data Infrastructure/Geospatial One-Stop/Federal Enterprise Architecture, Global Earth Observation System of Systems, Semantic/ontology, and Retro on Digital Earth.

All instructors worked very hard to accomplish the training program. They are Menas Kafatos (Dean SCS/GMU), Heshan El-Askary (Prof. Alexandria Univ./Egypt), David Wong (Chair, ESGS/GMU), Long Chiu (Prof. GMU), Barry (Prof. GMU), Zhong Liu (GES DAAC), Aijun Chen (Prof. LAITS GMU), Doug Nebert (USGS/FGDC), Richard Gomez (Prof. GMU), John Qu (Prof. GMU/NPP), ELI of GMU, Ruixin Yang (Prof. GMU), Ed Washburn and Steve Young (EPA), Rob Raskin (NASA JPL), Nadine Alameh(NASA GIO/OGC), Myra Bambacus (NASA GIO), and Phil Yang (Prof. GMU). Thanks also go to the students who study diligently with the Profs./Scientists. GMU staff also provided siginificant amount of work to ensure the smooth operation of the class.

During this process, CPGIS BOD and senior members participated in the teaching or provided comments and suggestions. They are Bin Li, Hui Lin, Le Wang, Qi Li, David Wong, and Aijun Chen.
