Part-time Summer Intern Positions

The Joint Center for Intelligent Spatial Computing (CISC), College of Science, George Mason University invites applications for several summer intern positions. We seek individuals that are self- motivated, energetic, and with good communication skills.

Position #1: Web application programmer (Java+JSP)

Job Description:

1) Participate in web application development using Java/JavaScript/JSP;

2) Supporting project manager(s) to accomplish tasks in time.

Applicants Requirements:

1) Currently registered GMU senior or graduate student;

2) Experience with developing web applications using Java, JavaScript and JSP;

3) Experience with web development tools, such as Eclipses, JBuilder and NetBean;

4) Knowledge of IIS, Tomcat, AJAX is a plus;

5) Knowledge of map, cartography is a plus;

6) Teamwork experience is desirable.

Position #2: Atmosphere modeling Assistant

Job Description:

1) Configure and develop NMM and WRF-NMM based a dust storm model;

2) Provide Atmospheric experience in the project team.

Applicants Requirements:

1) Atmosphere science background and atmosphere modeling experience;

2) Be familiar with the GRIB and NetCDF data format;

3) FORTRAN programming experience is preferred;

4) Be familiar with numerical Weather forecasting models, e.g. DREAM, WRF-NMM.

Position #3: Administrative support

 Job Description:

1) Proof reading technical documents;

2) Assist the center director(s) manage routine (non-scientific or technological) tasks;

3) May lead to a long-term job depending on performance and availability of funding.

Applicants Requirements:

1) Native Speaker of English;

2) Senior or graduate students;

3) English majors encouraged, but we will consider all applicants satisfy other requirements;

4) W riting samples is required for submitting application

Post Doctor

The joint Center for Intelligent Spatial Computing (CISC) at George Mason University invites applications for Post-Doctoral position in the geoscience information area. We seek self incentive, energetic individuals to participate in the research on geospatial interoperable portals, distributed geospatial information computing, spatial web services' quality of services, and GEOSS applications.

Applicants should have a recent Ph.D. in computer/computational sciences, geospatial information science, and GEOSS relevant sciences with a focus on computing. Working experience with OGC web services and/or grid computing for geoscience information applications are required.

Visiting Research Assistant
