Observing the increasing availability and utilization of geospatial technologies in natural resources and environmental issues, the College of Science (COS) of George Mason University (GMU), HeiLongJiang Bureau of Surveying and Mapping (HLJBSM), and CPGIS established this Advanced Certificate for GeoInformation Sciences (ACGIS). ACGIS is to meet the needs of providing GeoInformation knowledge for professionals to make wise decisions in their managements of various fields, such as Surveying and Mapping, Environment, Water Resource, Forestry Management, Land Use, and Agriculture.
The primary mission of the ACGIS is to improve the awareness of global and environmental change on the Earth planet and relevant technologies to copy with issues resulted from the changes. Therefore, equip students the capability with global knowledge to make sustainable management decisions. With this certificate, we intend to provide advanced and up-to-date training for students currently working in this field who would like to enhance their skills and acquire the latest knowledge in GeoInformation Science. This certificate will help to "re-train" the workforce to meet the new challenges in the area of GeoInformation Science.
The ACGIS requires students to complete a set of
12-credit equivalent hours of 8 COS graduate-level
courses (with 8 courses described in the bottom
links). Ideal candidates for this certificate
are those professionals who have a background
in Earth and environmental sciences. Students
completing the ACGIS will receive the most up-to-date
advanced GeoInformation Science training available.
Completion of the certificate will enhance the
careers of those professionals who are already
working in these areas.
